Lemon sharks (Negaprion brevirostris) have been accused of attacking humans. Give birth to live young, which are yellow in colour, thereof the name lemon shark. Length 3.2 m.  Blacktip sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus) hunt in and around coral reefs. Give birth to live young, often using mangrove swamps as nursery. Length 2.5 m. Cat sharks (Chiloscyllium colax) keep to the seabed, becoming active at dusk and at night. Length 1 m. Green Moray Eel (Gymnothorax funebris) often hide in caves, waiting for their prey to swim by. Their favourite food is squid and octopus. Length 2.4 m.  |
Clown fish (Amphiprion clarkii) take shelter from predators amongst the stinging tentacles of an anemone.  Dipped Chromis (Chromis bicolor) feed off animal plankton in the vicinity of coral reefs. Blue-green Reef fish (Chromis viridis) and Fairy Basslets (Anthias sp) are characteristic shoal-fishes to be found around coral reefs all over the world.  Blue-throat Triggerfish (Xanthichthys auromarginatus) have exceptionally powerful jaws but are less aggressive than other members of the Trigger family. Copperband Butterfly Fish (Chelmon rostratus) use their long snouts to get at food in nooks and crannies. |
